About Remote for Sony TV
Sony Bravia TVs can be controlled over your home network, so your phone can replace the physical remote without any infrared hardware. Remote for Sony TV talks to the TV over Wi-Fi: there is no need to point at the screen, and you can change channel or volume from another room.
This page explains which Sony TVs work, how to prepare the TV for network control, and what to check if your Bravia does not show up in the app.
Compatible Sony TVs
Sony Bravia with Google TV or Android TV
Recent Bravia models run Google TV or Android TV and include network control settings. These are the models the app is designed for.
Network connection required
The TV must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network (or wired to the same router) as your Android phone.
Older Sony TVs
Older Sony models without a network connection only accept infrared remotes and cannot be controlled over Wi-Fi by any app.
Set up your Sony TV
1. Install the app
Download Remote for Sony TV from Google Play on your Android phone.
2. Join the same network
Connect your phone and your Bravia to the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks and some routers isolate devices from each other, which prevents discovery.
3. Enable network control on the TV
In the TV settings, open the network or home network section and make sure remote / IP control is enabled. Menu names differ slightly between model years.
4. Select your TV and pair
Open the app, pick your Bravia in the list and, if the TV shows a pairing code, enter it in the app. After that the TV is remembered.
Troubleshooting
My Sony TV does not appear in the app
Check that the phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, not a guest network, and that the TV is switched on. Restarting the router or the TV often fixes discovery.
The app cannot turn my TV on
A TV in deep standby cannot always receive network commands. Check the TV settings for an option that lets the TV start from the network, and use the physical remote or power button for the first power-on.
The pairing code is refused
The code shown on the TV changes each time. Start pairing again from the app and type the new code shown on the screen.
Does it work without an infrared blaster?
Yes. The app uses your Wi-Fi network, so your phone does not need any infrared hardware.
